so #FavoriteNBAmoment is trending…
on Twitter, and I don’t think I’d be able to constrict myself to 140 characters on the subject.
See, my favorite NBA moment occurred damn near every home game. Every time my dad and I would head out to see the Warriors at Oracle, it was always a good time.
I seriously cherish the memories I have at these games with him. Most of our good conversations occurred on the ride over or while sitting in the car/in our seats waiting for the game to start. It was always a joy for me to test how far his old liver could take him when we were drinking, and so funny seeing him yelling throughout the game, telling me to calm down when I was going too hard, and eventually having to walk onto the concourse half the time whenever games got tense.
I’m going to miss grabbing him a tall Sierra Nevada or Dos Equis knowing that he’s going to end up pissing every quarter. I’m going to miss grabbing him nachos with extra jalapenos to help coat his stomach. I’m going to miss laughing at him sneaking off to go buy whatever the item of the game is while the game is going on just to avoid the lines. I’m going to miss all of the high fives and hugs and looks of disbelief as the W’s pull out another upset.
As I said at his funeral, he was my partner-in-crime. When it was the two of us, it was absolute comedy. These games were the pinnacle of our father-son relationship. Dating back to watching games on TV with him while Run-TMC tore it up, all the way to seeing Game 4 of the 07 playoffs with him…it was always a joy to have those 5 or so hours of kicking it like we were old buddies. It seemed like every night, with every shared meal, drink, or high five, it would be impossible to pick a singular favorite NBA moment.
Miss ya, dad.
